2009

  • Established Brit Insurance Services USA in Chicago, to underwrite on behalf of the Group’s Lloyd's Syndicate 2987.
  • Established representative office in Tokyo to enhance the profile of Brit Reinsurance and business activities in the Japanese market.
  • Awarded the ‘Underwriter of the Year’ award at the British Insurance Awards for our Brit Lite proposition.
  • Awarded the ‘Best Reinsurance Company Underwriting Casualty’ award at Reactions London Market Awards.
  • Brit Insurance Holdings N.V. (the Company) became the new holding company of the Group. The company is incorporated in the Netherlands, and listed in the UK.


2008

  • A £7m investment is made in Xbridge – the leading online insurance and finance technology platform – giving us a 38% interest in the business.
  • Announce four year sponsorship with The Design Museum involving a new set of annual international awards – the Brit Insurance Design Awards – and a supporting exhibition, the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year.
  • Become the broadcast sponsor for Sky Sports’ domestic test match cricket for 2008 and 2009, including the Ashes series.


2007

  • Entered into a three year $200m catastrophe swap contract with Fremantle Limited. The transaction won the Credit Magazine’s 'Structured Cell' award.
  • Following the success of Norton Re, Norton Re II is launched, a larger investment vehicle.
  • Included in the FTSE4Good Index.
  • £50m share buy-back successfully completed.


2006

  • Lead investor of Norton Re, a Bermuda-based catastrophe retrocession underwriter.
  • Awarded ‘Company of the Year’ at the Insurance Day London Market Awards and the ‘Major Loss Award’ (British Insurance Awards) for our swift and effective response to the 2005 US windstorms.


2005

  • Raised £150m capital through subordinated bond issue to consolidate other debt and to increase underwriting capacity in 2006.


2004

  • Awarded ‘Claims Team of the Year 2004’ (Insurance Day).

  • Gross written premiums for the year exceed £1bn.
  • Acquired PRI Group PLC, providing an additional £120m of capital.
